Curriculum

Monthly Themes

Each month we have a main theme. We use this theme throughout all of our activities and play. Each day we explore a new topic within our theme.  We also have a monthly shape, color, famous place and person, vocabulary words, and site words.  We also have  a weekly letter and number.  We use each of these things, along with the theme, in our daily lessons and play.  Our days are carefully mapped out to include as many of our special topics as possible.

Daily Circle Time

Each day we take time to discuss certain topics. Our circle time typically consists of things like letters, colors, numbers, and shapes. We also go over the days of the week, months of year, today's date, vocabulary words, site words and we discuss the weather. Depending on our theme, we also add in other things like, body parts, animal sounds, planets, 5 senses, etc. Each day it changes a little, to help keep everyone engaged. We also do things like clap, march, jump, kick, pat our heads, and stomp our feet as we recite things. The kids LOVE getting up and moving around while reviewing things.

Art

When we do art, we try to encourage creativity and individualism. Most of our projects allow the young artist to shine, and are not pre made or cookie cutter type projects, where every child's work looks the same. It is our goal to not stifle creativity, but to encourage and nurture the creativity of each child. Creativity is such a valuable thing.

Story Time

Each day we read. Often the books and stories go along with our theme, holiday, or review something like letters or numbers. However, We do also take requests. We understand the importance of daily reading, and wish to pass on our own love for reading.

Outdoor Time

Each day the weather allows us to, we spend time outdoors. We also utilize our outdoor space to play games or do art and activities. We have plenty of things to keep us occupied while outdoors, bubbles, chalk, play food and dishes, plastic shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows, parachutes, jump ropes, balls, and frisbees.
